There's a growing and perplexing appetite to lift the shutdowns in the US, despite the fact their infection rate is still climbing. 

Since January, 1.3 million Americans have contracted COVID-19, nearly 81,000 people have died and one projection suggests that by August, the death toll could reach 137,000.

Some Americans support the containment measures that have crippled their economy, but others have turned out in the streets to rally against them.
